Big Brother (in the Orson Wells’ sense) is not our government, but the people who control our government. The people who control our government are the people that control the most money: heads of corporations and of major Wall Street firms. In his interview with ABC, Larry Summers points out the fact that the financial services sector (part Wall Street and part corporations) spends, annually, about $1mm per congressman while employing 4 lobbyists per congressman. That is why Wall Street and Corporate America continue to get what they want and are not held accountable for what amounts, in many cases, to robbing the investing public.
